Justin Pavey is a self-employed woodwind and brass musical instrument repairer based in Wrington, near Bristol.  With over 15 years experience in this field Justin not only has the knowledge and experience to produce work of the highest quality, but also understands a musician’s needs and requirements as he is also a trombonist and free-lance musician playing in many bands in the South West.

Doctor Chocolate: a 9-piece party/covers/wedding band.  Justin co-runs this band, is musical director and plays Tenor Trombone covering hit songs from the 1960’s to present day chart numbers all over the UK and abroadJustin-Pavey.

The Name Is Band – Bond Tribute Band: Playing Tenor Trombone.  This band is a fantastic 10-piece James Bond Tribute band  playing the iconic Bond themes plus a party or swing set later in the evening.  This James Bond Tribute band spent 3 days on Lake Como performing for a themed wedding.

Bruce/Ilett Big Band: A 17 piece big band playing the BEST swing music from the 1930’s to 1950’s.  You can catch them at the Bristol International  Jazz & Blues Festival in March 2015.  Justin plays Bass Trombone in this big band.

Thunderbirds Are Go: Justin played Bass Trombone in this awesome band that was specifically formed by conductor Charles Hazlewood to showcase the music of Barry Gray at the 2014 Glastonbury Festival .

Flowers Brass Band: When the regular trombonists have been unavailable over the past 10 years Justin has often been called in to help out at many Regional & National competitions. He has performed with Flowers at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Symphony Hall in Birmingham, The Sage at Gateshead, The Corn Exchange in Cambridge and many more.

Brassed Off!

brass bandThis weekend (9th/10th March 2013) sees the annual West of England Regional Brass Band Contest held at the Riviera Conference Centre in Torquay.  Known as the “English Riviera” Torquay always holds a warm welcome for the competing bands.  The five sections will be held over two days, with the Fourth, Second and First section bands performing on Saturday, and the Third and Championship bands doing battle on Sunday.  This is one of the eight qualifying competitions held across the United Kingdom for the National Brass Band Finals.  The lower section finals (sections 1-4) are held in Cheltenham in September, and the successful Championship Section qualifiers are invited to compete in October at the Royal Albert Hall in London, for the opportunity to be crowned the National Brass Band Champions of Great Britain.  UK Brass bands are made up of the following instruments: –  Eb soprano cornet (1), Bb cornets (9), Bb flugel horn (1), Eb tenor horns (3), Bb baritone horns (2), Bb Euphoniums (2), Bb tenor trombones (2), bass trombone (1), EEb Tubas (2), BBb tubas (2), percussion and of course the conductor!

It promises to be a fantastic weekend of competition and BrassWindFix would like to wish all competing bands the very best of luck!

The competing bands in the Championship section are: –

Aldbourne, Bournemouth Concert Brass, Brunel Brass, Camborne Town, Chalford, Flowers (Gloucester), Lydbrook, Mount Charles, Sherborne Town, St Dennis and Woodfalls.
